Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc
Osage Rub

This was a head shave only, as the last few ones have been. I am growing my beard back.

Tuesday, 25 June

Philips 6423 LC
Afta Pre-Electric Shave Lotion
daylogic Arctic Blue After Shave Lotion (Vi-Jon)

Shave quality: Excellent! Absolutely remarkable considering I had a two-and-a-half-day beard going.
Shave faults: Only the slightest irritation at the left lower edge of my beard on my neck. The daylogic ASL fixed that up right quick.

Today was the first trial of the Wahl Total Care cleaner/lube spray. I've just run out of Remington Shaver Saver and this seemed worth a try as a possible replacement. This big can of spray cost just US$5.79 at my local Meijer store, so no worries if it didn't work. It was time for my weekly shaver cleaning routine, so I brushed out the heads and cutters, gave the head assembly a shot of Total Care just as I would with Shaver Saver, then ran the Philips for about 5 minutes with the cap on for a self-sharpening cycle, periodically wiping away the excess spray with a tissue. The shaver then gave one of the best shaves I've had from it in quite some time. We'll see if the Wahl spray continues to yield good results, but this initial trial seems very promising. 20240625_162133 4.jpg

Welcome aboard, Bear906. I have the 6423LC, as well. Great razor. I'll have to pick up some Wahl Total Care.
Thanks for the warm welcome, Jim! I used to be a regular on ERR 10-15 years ago and it's nice to have this forum again.

I'm planning on reviving my pair of vintage XLR-series Remington Micro Screen razors: one with a NOS Remington SP-40 foil, and the other with one of the inexpensive non-Remington replacement foils now available. Will post a complete review here on ERR. These shavers were really built to last--indeed, the battery on my 1989-vintage rechargeable Micro Screen is still good--and working Micro Screen shavers are going to be easy to find for decades to come. If they're still good shavers with the US$9 foils, I think our community would want to know.

Awesome! I look forward to your review.

Pre-shave: Warm shower; face patted dry. Afta Electric Pre-Shave Lotion applied. I then dried my hair--about an 8 minute job--and shaved immediately afterward
Shaver: Remington MicroScreen 1 SF-3
Post-shave: My Brisk/33 blend: 50/50 blend of Barbasol Brisk and Dollar General Classic (a Brut copy) after shave lotions with a dash of Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum ASL added

Last night, I dug out the SF-3--a shaver I've never much cared for--and was curious to see what the Wahl spray treatment could do for it. I gave the foil assembly and cutters an alcohol soak, air-dried both assemblies, then gave the foil assembly a shot of Wahl Total Care spray. Interestingly, the shaver still had enough charge after a couple of years of slumber to run at full speed, and a few test swipes on my unwashed face went well. I charged the razor fully before today's shave.

Shave Quality: Excellent--the best I've ever had with the SF-3, and better than yesterday's Philips shave. No lingering stubble or irritation of any kind. It was a fast, efficient shave too--it was only about three minutes into the shave before audio feedback from the cutters indicated that it wasn't picking up any more missed stubble. The aftershave lotion revealed just the slightest razor burn which the lotion instantly quelled.

I think the SF-3 could end up in the regular rotation going forward. Today's SF-3 shave was every bit as good as a good DE shave.

Pre-shave: Afta Pre-Electric Shave Lotion
Razor: Remington Micro Screen XLR-600 with new ShaverAid foil
Post-Shave: daylogic Arctic Blue after shave lotion

Here it is: My first electric shaver, gifted to me over 40 years ago.

After sitting unused for over 30 years, it was put back into service today with a new ShaverAid foil, which cost me just US$9 on Amazon. I'm awaiting a Remington SP40 foil to compare the ShaverAid foil with.

Cleaned up the head assembly, installed the ShaverAid foil, gave the cutters an alcohol soak, and then gave the foil a shot of Wahl Total Care spray.

Today's shave was excellent, a smigeon closer and a lot quicker than I've been getting with my Remington SF-3 and Philips 6423 LC shavers.

Razor bumps were an issue when I moved away from the XLR-series in 1990. There were no bumps in evidence today. The foil did not become annoyingly warm, either, as the OEM foils were prone to do back then.

Sadly, that review won't be forthcoming. The Remington SP40 foil that I just received was so poorly made, I wasn't able to install it.
I'm sorry to hear that. Sadly, these aftermarket parts often pail in comparison, quality-wise, to OEM parts.

It's the Remington-branded foil that turned out to be junk, with a side rail insert that was loose and bent irreparably during installation. On the other hand, the ShaverAid aftermarket foil snapped right into place much easier than any Remington foil I've installed ever did.

It's no big loss. The Remington SP40 would have to be truly awesome to best the ShaverAid foil, which has transformed my XLR-600 into the one of the best electric razors I've ever used. I'll likely order a stack of these foils, and the same company sells an aftermarket cutter for the XLR-series that I'm going to try.

Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc
Osage Rub

I had a problem with the Braun during today's shave. See the thread I created for details.

25-26 July 2024

Gave myself a nasty nick on my chin Monday while blade shaving. Using electrics while it heals up...

Face brush-washed with Van der Hagen Natural brush and Stirling Mentholated Shave Soap
Face air-dried while I took a shower
Pinaud Clubman talc as pre-shave, applied with RazoRock Snowman brush
Remington XLR-800 shaver
ShaverAid foil (aftermarket)
Remington SP-42 cutter (aftermarket cutters are available)
50/50 blend Barbasol Brisk/Vi-Jon "Brut" after shave lotion with a dash of Clubman VIBR

METHODOLOGY: Up & down and 'round & 'round with ultra-light-pressure against-the-grain passes at the end.
SHAVE CLOSENESS: Excellent. As good as an average blade shave.
SHAVE COMFORT: Excellent. The ShaverAid foil doesn't heat up as much as the OEM Remington SP-40 foil.
NICKS/IRRITATION: None
SHAVE LONGEVITY: Very good. Shave looked presentable 10 hours later, but felt a bit scratchy
FRAGRANCE LONGEVITY: The 50/50 ASL blend faded away in about 20 minutes, followed by the Stirling soap fragrance in about 90 minutes...leaving only the Clubman, which hung in there for about three hours. Very pleasant!
OVERALL: The brush action, Stirling soap, and Clubman talc make electric shaving nearly as satisfying and luxurious as lathering up and shaving with a conventional razor.
COMMENTS: The Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave soap is really marvelous stuff for both blade and electric shaving. My electric shavers just glide right along, and my face is so soft and smooth afterward, I really don't need aftershave lotion.
