Help with Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc Issue

I’m having trouble with my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc razor. While using it in the shower, it suddenly shut off despite showing three bars of power. After that, pressing the power button caused the cutters to move briefly before it shut off again.

Could this issue be due to water entering the razor, or might it be overheating? After waiting for two or three minutes, it worked normally for a short time before shutting off again. Currently, I have it charging in the cleaning station.

Also, the battery indicator dropped from three bars to showing only 9 minutes of battery life remaining. Any ideas on what could be causing this problem? Thank you, guys.

Update: I returned the Braun to Mercury Shaver Centre for repair or replacement. Given my prior bad experience with them detailed here, hopefully they give me a better customer service experience this time.

My razor arrived today at Mercury Shaver Centre. We'll see how long it takes to repair it and return it to me.

Email from Mercury:

Hi Jim,

We received your shaver and the repair has been completed under warranty.

We replaced the motor assembly, circuit board and battery.

Your shaver will be shipped out tomorrow by Canada Post, and you should receive it sometime next week.

Thank You!
Gabriela
Basically, the whole inner workings of the razor have been replaced. I asked Mercury if water had gotten inside the razor, as I suspect. Once they reply, I'll post back. Still, very disappointing performance from the Braun 9465cc. I just bought it in April.

I just received my repaired Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc from Mercury Shaver Centre this afternoon—they replaced the motor assembly, circuit board, and battery. I haven’t had a chance to shave with it yet, but I plan to do so tomorrow and share my thoughts in a YouTube video.

I’m hopeful that this fix resolves any issues, but it really highlights that an expensive razor isn’t always the best choice. I’ll always advocate for finding the razor that works best for you, regardless of the price. It’s all about what suits your needs and gives you the best results. I’ll keep you updated after tomorrow’s shave.

Hi, guys.

I wanted to share a frustrating experience I had with my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc, which I’ve been dealing with over the past few months. Hopefully, this post can serve as a cautionary tale for others who might be going through something similar or considering a repair for their razor.

The Initial Problem

I've been using my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc for a while now, and up until recently, it was my go-to razor. However, after less than four months of use, I started encountering a serious issue: the razor would unexpectedly shut off in the middle of my shave. This problem persisted despite ensuring that it was fully charged and clean. Naturally, I was quite disappointed, especially considering the high price tag that comes with a Series 9 Pro.

The Repair Process

To address the issue, I sent my razor to Mercury Shaver Centre for repair. They later sent me an email confirming that they had replaced the motor assembly, circuit board, and battery. Given the extensive nature of these repairs, I was hopeful that the issue would finally be resolved.

The Post-Repair Shave: More of the Same

Yesterday, I finally tried the razor after its return from Mercury Shaver Centre and recorded a video of the shave (embedded in this post at the bottom). Unfortunately, within minutes of starting, the razor began shutting off again—just like it did before I sent it in for repair.

To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The exact same issue, after what seemed like a complete overhaul of the razor's internals, still persists. This clearly suggests that the root cause was never identified or addressed during the repair process. It feels like the parts were replaced blindly without actually diagnosing the underlying issue.

Possible Causes?

At this point, I’m left wondering what could possibly be causing this problem. Given that the motor, circuit board, and battery were all replaced, I would have thought the issue would be resolved. Here are a few possibilities that have crossed my mind:

1. Faulty Connections: Perhaps there’s a loose connection somewhere in the razor that wasn’t addressed during the repair. Even with new parts, a poor connection could cause intermittent power issues.

2. Power Supply Issues: There could be a problem with the power supply that wasn’t checked during the repair process. This might involve something outside of the components that were replaced.

3. Software or Firmware Glitch: While less likely, there could be an issue with the software or firmware that controls the razor. If this wasn’t updated or checked during the repair, it could still be causing problems.

4. Design Flaw: It’s also possible that there’s a fundamental design flaw with this model of the Braun Series 9 that causes this issue. If that’s the case, then replacing parts would never fully resolve the problem.

Next Steps: Further Repair or Alternatives?

I’m now left with a decision to make. Should I send the razor back to Mercury Shaver Centre and request another repair, this time insisting on a more thorough diagnosis? Or should I cut my losses and consider other options? Given that the problem has persisted even after such extensive repairs, I’m leaning towards exploring alternatives.

Conclusion: Finding the Best Razor for You

This experience reinforces my belief that it’s not about the price tag but about finding the razor that works best for you. The Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc, despite being a premium product, has been nothing but trouble for me. I’ve had less expensive razors that have lasted longer and given me fewer issues. In the meantime, I’ll always advocate for finding the best razor for you, regardless of the price tag. Usually, the most expensive option isn’t worth the trouble.

If anyone else has had similar experiences—whether it’s with this particular model or another—especially with receiving faulty products or poor repair services, I’d love to hear your stories. Have you ever sent a razor in for repair, only to have the same issue persist afterward?

Here's an update. I sent back the razor today via UPS to Mercury Shaver Centre and they are now telling me that they will replace the body.

As of August 27, the latest update is Mercury was waiting for a part which was to arrive yesterday. That begs the question, of course, why they didn't fix my razor correctly the first time. Poor service for sure.

I received the newly-repaired razor on Monday. I haven't shaved with it yet, though. I emailed Mercury Shaver Centre twice since Monday to see what the problem was. They didn't reply. A new Braun 94M razor head was included, new in the package, along with my razor. The old was also included, but in a small Ziploc bag. I don't know if this is Mercury telling me the head was at fault (maybe clogged with hair) and to use the new head. I'll call them tomorrow to find out for sure.

Hi, guys.

As you know, I’ve sent my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc razor to Mercury Shaver Centre for repairs twice now, and I wanted to share the issues I’ve been facing.

1. Clogged Razor Head: The primary problem is that the razor head became completely clogged with hair. Despite my best efforts to clean it after each shave by rinsing it under hot water, the design makes thorough cleaning challenging. The cutting unit is built into the foil head, which creates a tight space that traps hair and debris.

2. Ineffective Cleaning System: I also use the Braun cleaning station about once a week when charging, but it seems to recycle the old solution. The cleaning cartridge I’ve been using since April has accumulated a lot of hair and residue, which is then squirted back into the razor head during the cleaning cycle. This defeats the purpose of using the cleaning station in the first place.

3. Replacement Head: When I got my razor back, they replaced the clogged head, which was nice, but the replacement isn’t typically covered by warranty. This raises questions about the overall durability and effectiveness of the design.

4. Overall Experience: After two repair attempts, I’m left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The design flaws, combined with the maintenance challenges, make me seriously reconsider sticking with Braun products.

I’m officially done with Braun and actively looking for a better electric razor that won’t give me these headaches. If anyone has recommendations for reliable non-Braun foil razors, I’d love to hear them.

Have you tried the Panasonic Arc 5. I have both Braun series 9 pro+ and Panasonic Arc 5. The Panasonic gives a really close shave but is a bit harsh for me.
I prefer the Braun.
