Hi, guys.
I wanted to share a frustrating experience I had with my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc, which I’ve been dealing with over the past few months. Hopefully, this post can serve as a cautionary tale for others who might be going through something similar or considering a repair for their razor.
The Initial Problem
I've been using my Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc for a while now, and up until recently, it was my go-to razor. However, after less than four months of use, I started encountering a serious issue: the razor would unexpectedly shut off in the middle of my shave. This problem persisted despite ensuring that it was fully charged and clean. Naturally, I was quite disappointed, especially considering the high price tag that comes with a Series 9 Pro.
The Repair Process
To address the issue, I sent my razor to Mercury Shaver Centre for repair. They later sent me an email confirming that they had replaced the motor assembly, circuit board, and battery. Given the extensive nature of these repairs, I was hopeful that the issue would finally be resolved.
The Post-Repair Shave: More of the Same
Yesterday, I finally tried the razor after its return from Mercury Shaver Centre and recorded a video of the shave (embedded in this post at the bottom). Unfortunately, within minutes of starting, the razor began shutting off again—just like it did before I sent it in for repair.
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. The exact same issue, after what seemed like a complete overhaul of the razor's internals, still persists. This clearly suggests that the root cause was never identified or addressed during the repair process. It feels like the parts were replaced blindly without actually diagnosing the underlying issue.
Possible Causes?
At this point, I’m left wondering what could possibly be causing this problem. Given that the motor, circuit board, and battery were all replaced, I would have thought the issue would be resolved. Here are a few possibilities that have crossed my mind:
1. Faulty Connections: Perhaps there’s a loose connection somewhere in the razor that wasn’t addressed during the repair. Even with new parts, a poor connection could cause intermittent power issues.
2. Power Supply Issues: There could be a problem with the power supply that wasn’t checked during the repair process. This might involve something outside of the components that were replaced.
3. Software or Firmware Glitch: While less likely, there could be an issue with the software or firmware that controls the razor. If this wasn’t updated or checked during the repair, it could still be causing problems.
4. Design Flaw: It’s also possible that there’s a fundamental design flaw with this model of the Braun Series 9 that causes this issue. If that’s the case, then replacing parts would never fully resolve the problem.
Next Steps: Further Repair or Alternatives?
I’m now left with a decision to make. Should I send the razor back to Mercury Shaver Centre and request another repair, this time insisting on a more thorough diagnosis? Or should I cut my losses and consider other options? Given that the problem has persisted even after such extensive repairs, I’m leaning towards exploring alternatives.
Conclusion: Finding the Best Razor for You
This experience reinforces my belief that it’s not about the price tag but about finding the razor that works best for you. The Braun Series 9 Pro 9465cc, despite being a premium product, has been nothing but trouble for me. I’ve had less expensive razors that have lasted longer and given me fewer issues. In the meantime, I’ll always advocate for finding the best razor for you, regardless of the price tag. Usually, the most expensive option isn’t worth the trouble.
If anyone else has had similar experiences—whether it’s with this particular model or another—especially with receiving faulty products or poor repair services, I’d love to hear your stories. Have you ever sent a razor in for repair, only to have the same issue persist afterward?
