New Shaver Choice

I am a daily face shaver using an Arc 5 LV-65S. I prefer to shave dry but occasionally do a wet shave. It is almost time to replace the foil and blades. I read that the latest replacement blades will work and are more comfortable than the original ones. Before spending the money I am considering just getting a new shaver specifically the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus. Cost is not a major driver. I would appreciate any insight from anyone who has experience with both of these.
Thanks

I’ve used both the Arc 5 and the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus, so thought I'd chime in. The Arc 5 LV-65S is a solid shaver, and I found it great for both dry and wet shaving. If you're thinking about replacing the foil and blades, the newer replacement blades are indeed more comfortable and can give your shaver a bit of a refresh.

Now, regarding the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus, I made the switch myself and was pretty impressed. The Series 9 Pro Plus gives a really close and smooth shave, and it’s gentle on the skin. It's also quite good for both dry and wet shaving, just like the Arc 5. One thing I noticed is that the Braun handles thicker growth a bit better and is slightly more comfortable over longer sessions.

Since cost isn't a big concern for you, the Braun Series 9 Pro Plus could be a great upgrade. It’s a bit of an investment, but in my experience, it's worth it for the comfort and performance. If you do decide to get the new shaver, you probably won’t regret it. But if you're happy with the Arc 5, getting the newer replacement blades can definitely give you a nice improvement without having to buy a whole new shaver.

Hope this helps!

Welcome aboard, Rodney, and StevieG, it's good to read your post. I guess I just want to add that, of course, Rodney's experience may not match yours. However, since these razors have liberal return policies from both the manufacturer and usually Amazon (if that's where you end up buying it), it certainly can't hurt to try.

Yes this does help.
Thanks

I am also considering the BabyLiss F02 for something completely different.
Just wanted to chime in about the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 since you mentioned considering it for something completely different. I actually have the silver version of the F02 and use it to shave my head from time to time. While I haven’t tried it on my face, I can share my thoughts based on my experience.

The BabyLiss FOILFX02 is a solid and heavy shaver, which gives it a very premium feel. The build quality is impressive, and it really feels durable in your hand. One of the standout features for me is its long battery life. It lasts a good amount of time (three hours) between charges, which is super convenient.

If a showerproof version of the BaBylissPRO FOILFX02 were to emerge, it would definitely be my go-to head shaver. The ability to use it in the shower would make the shaving process even more efficient and comfortable.

Overall, I like the FOILFX02 a lot for head shaving, and while I can’t speak to its performance on the face, it has certainly impressed me with its build quality and battery life.

Thanks for the reply. I might take a chance on it since the Arc 5 and the Series 9 seem very similar.

I ordered the latest Arc 5 replacement set. Will give it a go and report back. I discovered that wet shaving with an electric does not appeal to me after several tries. I lathered up yesterday and brought out my Prewar Tech and really enjoyed it. I know there is a school of thought that frowns on going back and forth between DE’s and Electrics but I am probably going to do it anyway.

Great to hear you ordered the latest Arc 5 replacement set. Definitely let us know how it goes once you've had a chance to try it out.

I totally get that wet shaving with an electric might not be for everyone. Sometimes, sticking to what feels comfortable and enjoyable is the way to go. It’s interesting you brought out your Prewar Tech and had a good experience with it. There’s definitely something satisfying about a traditional DE shave.

As for switching between DEs and electrics, I think it’s all about what works best for you. There’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to shaving. If alternating between them suits your routine and skin, go for it. The key is finding what keeps you comfortable and happy with your shave.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with the new Arc 5 blades!

You won't be the only one here on ERR alternating between DE and electric shaving. My face goes through cycles where one or the other works better. Why wouldn't I use what's working the best at any given moment?

When I'm in the DE shaving cycle, I also use a Prewar Tech with a Dishi heavy aftermarket handle, and most often a BiC Platinum blade. Smooth luxury!
