Philips 9000 series vs Braun - why does everyone prefer Braun?

Serious question - been reading reviews and it seems like Braun gets recommended way more than Philips, especially the rotary models. But looking at specs, the Philips 9000 Prestige has some impressive numbers: 150,000 cutting actions per minute vs Braun's 40,000 micro-vibrations per second, same 60-minute battery life, Lift & Cut technology sounds pretty advanced, and usually costs less than equivalent Braun models.

So what am I missing? Is it just personal preference between foil vs rotary, or are there actual performance differences that justify everyone going with Braun? I've never used either brand so no preconceived notions here. Just want the best shave for the money.

Welcome aboard. First point, Philips only makes rotary models. I wouldn't say that everyone goes for Braun. I think the board offers a balance of users of foils like the Braun and Philips razors. That said, as always, your mileage may vary. What works for one may not work for you. Take advantage of the money-back guarantee offered by both companies, and give both a fair trial.

Like many here, I use both foil and rotary. Rotaries seem to do well for those who don't have to shave everyday, though their thicker combs normally don't offer the closeness a thin foil can, but I know for me I can see advantages with both types. Some people can more easily identify with certain brands too. For foils, I prefer the dual-foil Remingtons to the single-foil Brauns. Many prefer Philips rotaries over Remington's rotaries. As Jim says, though, take advantage of the money-back guarantee. The most you'll be out-of-pocket would be return postage after the trial period.
