Philips Norelco Series 2000 review

Hi all, great to see this forum back!

I am usually a wet shaver, but while on holiday in the USA (I’m from Ireland but live in England now) about 2 years ago I realised I had forgotten my razor blades. I went out to the local CVS or Walgreens (can’t remember which) but no blades in sight. I did happen to spot a nice looking entry level Norelco series 2000 for around $20, so on impulse I immediately bought it.

I was sceptical at first because I hadn’t purchased an electric shaver since 2003 and my last electric shave was a disaster 7 years ago with an almost 20 year old worn out Remington rotary!

I charged the Norelco up for a few hours and went to town and I must say it really surprised me how good a shave it gave, especially on my 3 day tough beard. I can remember the audible sound of most electric shavers slowing down on multiple days growth, but surprisingly not the case with the Norelco!

Fast forward to now and I’ve been using it at least twice a month for the last two years and it still feels like new! A charge still gets at least a week of shaves and the blades still seem fairly sharp, even on multiple days growth.

Granted, it’s probably going to need some new heads pretty soon (I can get these locally so no big deal), and from reading reviews it seems the battery only lasts about 1.5 to 2 years, so may need replacement soon. I have a local shaver repair centre close by who fits new batteries for reasonable cost so I’m not too concerned about the battery dying soon. So for now it’s a solid performer.

I even brought the European equivalent, the Philips series 1000 as a backup in case this one prematurely dies or gets stolen!

So in conclusion the Norelco series 2000 is a great entry level shaver that works very well on my tough beard , with replacement parts readily available this seems like it’s going to be my go to for considerable time! I would happily recommend this to anyone new to electric shaving or even seasoned pros.

Rmac86,

Welcome aboard! It's great to see you here on the forum, and thanks for sharing your experience with the Norelco Series 2000. It sounds like you had quite the journey to discover this gem of a razor.

Your story about forgetting your razor blades and impulsively picking up the Norelco Series 2000 at a CVS or Walgreens is something many of us can relate to. It's always interesting to see how those unexpected purchases can turn out to be surprisingly good.

I can imagine the skepticism, especially after your last experience with an old Remington rotary. It's impressive to hear how well the Norelco handled your 3-day tough beard without slowing down. It’s a testament to how far electric razors have come in terms of technology and performance.

Using it for two years and still getting a week’s worth of shaves on a single charge is fantastic. It's great that you have a local repair centre that can fit new batteries, extending the life of your shaver even further. And having a backup Philips Series 1000 shows you're well-prepared for any situation.

Thanks for the recommendation. It's always valuable to hear about entry-level razors that perform well.

Looking forward to more of your posts and contributions.
