I bought the Philips OneBlade Pro about 18 months ago after reading mixed reviews and wanted to share my experience because I think this razor gets unfairly dismissed by people expecting it to be something it's not.
The OneBlade isn't trying to be a traditional electric shaver that gives you the closest possible shave. It's designed for people who want to maintain stubble or short beard length while still looking neat and groomed. Once I understood that purpose, it's been perfect for what I need.
I keep a short beard for work (business casual environment where full beards are fine but need to look maintained). The OneBlade trims everything to a consistent length quickly and easily. Takes me about 3 minutes every other day to keep everything looking sharp. The edging capability is excellent for cleaning up necklines and cheek lines.
Battery life has been solid - I charge it maybe once every two weeks with my usage pattern. The blade cartridges last about 4 months each like Philips claims, so I'm spending roughly $45 per year on blades. That's reasonable for the convenience and results.
Build quality has held up well. No issues with the body, buttons work fine, still waterproof after regular rinsing. I did drop it once from counter height onto tile and it survived without problems.
Where people get disappointed is expecting it to give a smooth shave like an Arc5 or Series 9. It won't do that and isn't designed to. If you want completely smooth skin, buy a different razor. But if you want to maintain short facial hair at consistent length with minimal effort, the OneBlade Pro is excellent.
For my specific use case - maintaining a professional short beard - this has been one of the better grooming purchases I've made. Would definitely buy again when this one eventually dies.
Anyone else using the OneBlade for beard maintenance rather than full shaving?
Trevor
