Remington titanium repair- battery indicator not working

Hi guys, I recently found my almost 20 year old Remington rotary shaver and decided to get the battery renewed. I sent it away to a local repair shop (the only one I’m aware of in the UK) who fitted the battery with seemingly no issues.

He did report that after fully charging it and running down the battery he charged it again, but this time when he plugged it in the battery indicator was flashing, indicating that the battery was already fully charged? I told him it shouldn’t be an issue providing the new battery holds a charge and asked him to send it back to me.

When I got it back I ran the shaver continuously for over an hour to drain the batteries, then charged it up for an hour and the same thing happened. I did ask if there was any PCB damage when he took it apart but he said other than one of the old batteries leaking the inside of the unit was relatively clean.

From memory the charging indicator on a Remington is flashing for fully charged and solid for charging, should I be concerned about this long term? It should be said that the low battery indicator still lights up solid when there’s around 20 minutes of shaving time left, but doesn’t flash when there’s less than 5 minutes left, which is the opposite of the charging indicator?

It's always interesting to see how these older models hold up after a bit of maintenance. Regarding your issue with the charging indicator, it sounds like there might be some confusion with the indicator lights. Typically, on many older Remington models, the charging indicator light behavior you're describing (flashing for fully charged and solid for charging) seems correct. However, given the age of your razor and the recent battery replacement, there could be a few things to consider:

Battery Compatibility: Sometimes, replacement batteries, even if they're the right type, can behave slightly differently. The important thing is whether the battery holds a charge and performs well during use, which it seems to be doing.

PCB and Sensor Issues: Although the repair shop mentioned the inside was relatively clean, there could be minor sensor or PCB issues that cause the indicator lights to behave unexpectedly. The fact that one of the old batteries leaked might have caused some minor damage or residue that affects the indicators.

Indicator Behaviour: As long as your razor is functioning well, holding a charge, and providing good shaving performance, the indicator lights' behaviour might not be a significant issue. It’s good to note that the low battery indicator is still working, even if it’s not flashing when the charge is very low.

My Take
I wouldn't be overly concerned if the razor is working fine otherwise. It sounds like your razor is still in good working condition despite the quirks with the indicator lights. If you notice any performance issues, it might be worth revisiting the repair shop or considering a more detailed inspection.
