Travel shaver recommendation

Hi guys,

I have an upcoming trip to Vietnam in November and for convenience I’m flying carry on only. Unfortunately the airline I’m flying with has severely restricted my baggage allowance to just 7kg /15lb.

I would prefer to use an electric shaver for convenience and due to apparently dodgy water across the country.

Taking my main razor (Norelco Series 2000) is out as this is too heavy. I do have an old Philishave HQ5426, which is good enough but is mains powered only so I’m concerned there won’t be anywhere to plug it in.

Is there any specific travel shaver that you guys would recommend, or do you think I should just stick with the Philishave for now?

Hello, Rmac86.

That sounds like an exciting trip to Vietnam! Given your limited baggage allowance of just 7kg / 15lb and the convenience of an electric shaver, I can see why you’re looking for a lightweight and travel-friendly option.

Considering Your Needs:
- Weight and Size: Since you’re restricted to 7kg / 15lb, a compact and lightweight shaver is a must.
- Battery Power: With potential concerns about plug availability, a shaver with a good battery life is essential.

Best Travel Razors for Lightweight Travel:

1. Braun MobileShave M-90:
- Compact and Lightweight: This shaver is designed specifically for travel and is very light.
- Battery-Powered: It uses AA batteries, so you don't have to worry about finding an outlet. Plus, AA batteries are easy to find anywhere.
- Water-Resistant: You can easily clean it under running water, which is a bonus for travel.

2. Panasonic ES3831K:
- Compact Design: Lightweight and portable.
- Battery-Powered: It also uses AA batteries and provides a decent shave for its size.
- Durable and Efficient: Known for being reliable and providing a close shave.

3. Philips Norelco PQ208/40 Travel Electric Razor:
- Super Lightweight: Very easy to carry around.
- Battery-Operated: Runs on AA batteries and provides around 60 minutes of shaving time.
- Great for Short Trips: Ideal for maintaining your shave without the bulk.

Stick with the Philishave?

If you prefer to stick with your Philishave HQ5426, make sure you have a reliable travel adapter. Voltage won't be issue since all Philips razors adjust automatically. However, a battery-operated travel shaver might provide more convenience and peace of mind given your concerns about plug availability.

Final Thoughts

For your trip to Vietnam, I'd lean towards the Braun MobileShave M-90 or the Panasonic ES3831K. Both are excellent travel companions and will keep you well-groomed without adding significant weight to your carry-on. Safe travels and enjoy Vietnam.
