Braun Series 7 7085cc detailed review after 30 months of ownership

I picked up the Braun Series 7 7085cc back in May 2023 and figured after two and and a half years of using it every morning, I should share my honest thoughts on how it's held up.

Design and Build Quality

The 360-degree flex head that adapts to your face contours isn't just marketing talk - it actually makes a noticeable difference when you're working around your jawline and under your chin. After 18 months of daily use, everything still feels solid with no rattling or loose parts. One thing I really appreciate is that it's made in Germany and comes with a smart charger that automatically adjusts between 100-240V, which saved me hassle on a couple work trips overseas.

Shaving Performance

This razor has something called AutoSense technology that supposedly reads your beard density and adjusts the motor speed as needed. I was skeptical at first, but I've noticed it does seem to power through thicker areas on my neck faster while slowing down elsewhere. My beard is medium-coarse and I can knock out a complete shave in about 4-5 minutes, which beats the hell out of the 15 minutes I used to spend with cartridge razors.

The closeness is really good for an electric - obviously not identical to a fresh blade, but pretty damn close. More importantly, my neck doesn't get torn up like it used to with manual razors. That alone makes it worth the switch for me.

Battery Life and Charging

Braun claims you get up to 50 minutes of runtime, which they say equals about three weeks of shaving. I'm getting pretty close to that - usually charge every 2-3 weeks with daily use. The 5-minute quick charge feature has literally saved my ass several times when I forgot to charge overnight and needed to shave before heading out.

After 18 months the battery still performs like it did when new, which honestly surprised me. My last electric razor started losing battery life after about a year.

Clean & Charge Station

The cleaning station that comes with the 7085cc model is probably my favorite feature. You just dock the razor after shaving and it automatically cleans, lubricates, and dries everything overnight. The cleaning solution cartridges last about a month with daily use. A four-pack of replacement cartridges runs around $25, so you're looking at about $75 a year for cleaning solution. Not cheap, but worth it for the convenience in my opinion.

Attachments and Accessories

The precision trimmer attachment that swaps with the regular shaving head is actually useful - I use it weekly for my sideburns and neckline. It also comes with five different beard combs if you keep facial hair. My only complaint is that getting the cassette off requires some prying rather than a smooth release button, which feels a bit clunky.

Wet and Dry Capability

It's fully waterproof so you can use it with foam, gel, or in the shower. I usually shave dry because it's faster, but I've used it in the shower with gel a bunch of times and it works just as well. The waterproofing also means cleaning it under the tap is super easy.

Value Assessment

The 7085cc usually sells for around $170-180, which puts it in the mid-to-upper price range. When you factor in the performance, build quality, included accessories, and that cleaning station, I think it's fair pricing. Just remember you'll need to budget for cleaning solution cartridges and eventually replacement foils (around every 18 months at $50-60).

Bottom Line

After 18 months of using this thing every single morning, I'm genuinely satisfied with it. The AutoSense feature, flex head, and especially that cleaning station make it significantly better than the budget models I've tried. If you're looking for a solid mid-range electric shaver that doesn't require constant fiddling and maintenance, this is a good bet.
