Braun Series 9 9390cc cleaning station stopped working - troubleshooting help

My Braun Series 9 9390cc cleaning station suddenly stopped working last week. The razor itself works fine but when I put it in the station nothing happens - no lights, no cleaning cycle, nothing. I've had this setup for about 14 months so its still relatively new.

Things I've already tried:

  • Unplugged it for 24 hours and plugged back in
  • Replaced the cleaning cartridge with a fresh one
  • Made sure the razor is seated properly in the dock
  • Checked that the outlet works with other devices

The station was working perfectly until it just stopped. No warning signs or gradual decline, it literally worked one day and didn't work the next. The razor charges fine when I plug it directly into the wall so its definitely a station issue not a razor issue.

Has anyone else had their cleaning station die like this? Is there a reset procedure I'm missing or does this mean the station is just dead? Replacement stations are like $80-100 which seems ridiculous for what should be a reliable component.

Really frustrated because the whole point of buying the cleaning station model was the convenience factor. Now I'm manually cleaning it anyway and wondering if I should have just saved the money and bought the version without the station.

Any troubleshooting suggestions before I give up and buy a replacement?

Well, Paul, you've done most of the things I would do if I used a cleaning station. The only other things I can think of is that perhaps the wiring at the plug or the unit may be not completely connected or has somehow pulled away or even become bent, frayed, or torn; or, that an internal switch that activates the unit might be defective. I guess I would also look at the shaver's connection to the station when you set it in. Perhaps either the shaver's or station's connection may be dirty, oily, or somewhat preventing an electrical contact.

I'm not sure how long your warranty is, but I frequently reach out to the manufacturer, and even if you're past the warranty, they might be able to help you.

Welcome, Paul. I've never had my cleaning station die suddenly, but definitely check the connection to the cleaning station and to the razor. Similarly, where my earbuds fit in the charging case, they sometime get gummed up to the point where it's like they're not in the case at all, and they're drawing power because the case doesn't "know" they're in the charging case. Try a bit of rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip on the connectors.
