Philips Norelco OneBlade - overhyped or actually worth it?

I keep seeing ads and reviews everywhere for the Philips OneBlade and everyone acts like it's some revolutionary product. Finally picked one up last week to see what all the fuss is about and honestly I'm not sure I get it.

It's marketed as this hybrid between a trimmer and a razor but it doesn't really excel at either function. As a trimmer it works okay but not better than my old Wahl beard trimmer. As a razor it leaves more stubble than my regular electric shaver. The blade cartridge replacement cost is pretty reasonable compared to foil shavers but you have to replace them way more often - every 4 months supposedly.

The design is nice and lightweight, and I'll give them credit that it's easy to clean and the battery lasts a decent amount of time. But I don't understand why this thing gets treated like it's the best invention since sliced bread. It seems like a decent travel option or backup razor at best.

Am I missing something here or is this just really good marketing? I've seen people on YouTube act like the OneBlade changed their life but to me it's just another grooming tool that does an okay job at a few things without being great at any of them.

Anyone else feel like the OneBlade hype is overblown or did I just not give it enough time to appreciate what makes it special?

While I do have several Philips shavers, I don't have this hybrid device; however, I sense its "hype" is more than marketing based on the very positive reviews it gets on Amazon. Its reviews there are higher than many other shaving devices. I guess it is really ideal if you truly need both a trimmer and a shaver. I suspect many people have separate devices for each of those functions.

Also, Kevin, it sells for much less than the Braun All-In-One that has similar characteristics, so it is reasonably priced by comparison.

Finally, there may be a provision to return it, though it depends who was the seller. I know manufacturers I've dealt with, like Philips and Remington, are pretty liberal and generous with their return policy.

Kevin, welcome aboard. I have a OneBlade. I'll put it to you like this. If I were clean-shaven, I would use a regular electric razor. The OneBlade doesn't get as close as an electric razor does. I've seen people even shave their heads with it, but it's much faster (and closer) to just use an electric razor (either one specifically for the head or the face).
