Remington F5-5800 - decent budget option or waste of money?

Looking at the Remington F5-5800 as my first electric razor. Seeing it for around $40-50 which fits my budget as a college student.
Specs seem okay - 3 foil heads, cordless/corded operation, though I can't find reliable info on the actual battery life or motor specs. Has a pop-up trimmer which is nice. I know Remington isn't Braun or Panasonic quality but for someone just starting with electric shaving, is this a reasonable entry point? Or should I save up another $50-100 for a Braun Series 3? My facial hair is pretty light, shave maybe 4 times a week. Just need something that won't leave me looking worse than I started.

Welcome aboard, Jake. The Remington F5-5800 is actually a decent entry point for someone starting with electric shaving, especially at your budget. It's one of Remington's better models and should handle light facial hair just fine. The F5-5800 does have corded/cordless operation which is nice - you can use it plugged in if the battery dies. Battery life is 60 minutes, which should be plenty for your shaving frequency. The pop-up trimmer is handy for sideburns and touch-ups. For light facial hair and shaving 4 times a week, this should work well. The main thing with budget razors is keeping realistic expectations and understanding what works for your specific skin and hair type. If you can stretch your budget to around $70, the Braun Series 3 ProSkin is another option to consider. But if $50 is your hard limit, the F5-5800 is a solid choice in that price range. Just make sure to clean it regularly and replace the heads when they start tugging - probably every year with your usage.
